Manning at High Prairie Preview [Sat., Dec. 22]

The final week before the Christmas break, except for GP, who started their break after the Saturday win over GRIM. They don’t play until Jan. 3, a break of 19 days. Meanwhile it’s not all bad for winless HP. Every team makes the playoffs and HP has only four more road games left after their trip to FAL this week: FAL and MAN, and GRIM twice with one game at PR. Seven are at home. David Temple, former NPHL linesman and avid NPHL fan, sets the lines. To his credit, Temple called the GRIM upset over GP last week.

LINE: High Prairie by 1 1/2

It’s the fourth meeting of the season between the teams with MAN already enjoying home ice wins of 5-2 and 9-8 in OT, and 4-2 in HP. It’s also a battle of the two worst teams in the NPHL; HP is still winless having lost 12 straight games with only an OT loss and a SO loss to show for their efforts. As you would expect, the teams rank worst or next-to-worst in most stats categories. On a bright note MAN, however, does have the third-ranked PP at 75.47%. MAN also ranks first in the league in scoring the first goal in 58.33% of its games, and MAN is only one of two teams to win a game this season when trailing after two periods [GRIM is the other]. MAN ranks last in shots on goal for per game, shots on goal against and, of course shots differential. HP is sixth in the same categories. HP has not won a game and not even had a lead after the second period [0-12] in 12 games. HP has blown four first period leads, and held a lead in seven of their 12 games overall. HP PP is ranked last, MAN’s third, and HP’s PK unit is also ranked last, MAN’s fifth. MAN, however, is the most penalized team in the NPHL. HP has lost 12 straight in MAN but this game is in HP. HP swept MAN last season at home winning 4-3 in OT and 9-3. That seems like a long time ago. HP is winless but MAN’s only road win this season was in HP. Something has to go HP’s way sooner or later. HP to win and cover.
