Josh Peters’ fourth goal of the night with 31 seconds left in the third period lifted the visiting Grimshaw Huskies to a thrilling 5-4 win over the Falher Pirates Saturday night.
The win puts GRIM in second place in the East Division, one point ahead of the Manning Comets and sets up a showdown between the clubs in GRIM Friday, Feb. 1. A win by either club clinches second place and home ice advantage in their upcoming playoff series. MAN does not need to win, however. A loss in overtime or a shootout and they can still clinch second with a win in High Prairie Feb. 2. GRIM is idle that night.
Peters scored in the first period, Brian Sommers in the second and the clubs were tied 1-1 heading into the third.
Peters gave GRIM a 2-1 lead before Darren Kramer tied the game. Jeff Chalifoux then gave FAL a 3-2 lead. The battle continued when Kyle Richardson tied the game, then Sommers gave FAL a 4-3 lead with 5:16 left. Peters’ third of the night, on a power play, tied the game with 2:35 left before he added the game-winner in the waning seconds. Lowen Lambert and Ty Wiebe each drew assists on the game-tieing and game-winning goals.
