Grimshaw at Manning Preview [Thu., Jan. 10]

We can’t get a much more wilder night that Saturday last in the NPHL. Coupled with all the suspensions and penalties, not to mention other weird happenings, I was a perfect 0-3 against the line! Skunked! David Temple, former NPHL linesman and avid NPHL fan, sets the lines and is inching closer to .500 each week.

Grimshaw at Manning [Thu., Jan. 10]
LINE: Grimshaw by 2 1/2

It’s the fourth of six meetings this season. MAN leads GRIM in the battle for second place in what looks like a playoff preview. HP may have something to say about that, however. GRIM can tie MAN with a win although MAN holds any tiebreaker. The last two meetings however, are at GRIM Jan. 24 and Feb. 1. MAN has five players suspended for this game while GRIM has lost 10 of 11 and are ice cold. GRIM’s rankings are still respectable despite the recent slide. GRIM’s PP ranks second and PK third while MAN’s PP and PK rank sixth – and sliding fast. MAN is also the NPHL’s most penalized team. GRIM ranks fourth in shots on goal for per game and fifth against; MAN ranks last in both. Overall, GRIM’s shots on goal for and against is +23 while MAN’s is -232. Thank goodness for Braden Gamble! GRIM is a puzzling 2-4 when scoring first but MAN isn’t much better at 4-4. The lead is important to both teams. GRIM is 4-2 when leading after one period; MAN 2-1. After two periods, both teams are perfect when leading: GRIM is 4-0 and MAN 5-0. Both teams have been outscored in every period to rank fifth or lower. A curious stat: MAN has come from behind to win 31.25% of its games but both teams have blown leads they enjoyed in 31.25% of its games. The lead is important at the end of periods for both teams but not during a period. The home team has won all three meetings this season: MAN has won at home 5-3 and 6-5 while GRIM won at home 5-1. Before this season, GRIM has won three straight at MAN. Because of the suspensions, GRIM is favoured. I agree. I can’t see MAN overcoming the loss of the players suspended. GRIM to win but MAN with the goals.
