Braden Gamble stopped 41 of 44 shots and the Manning Comets made an early lead hold up as they defeated the visiting first place Grimshaw Huskies 5-3 Dec. 7.
Payton Proskurniak and Taylor Paulovich scored first period goals for the Comets.
In the second, Brendan Hawryluk scored his first of three goals on the night. He accounted for all of Grimshaw’s scoring.
Michael Gillen replied to restore the Comets’ two-goal lead 20 seconds after Hawryluk’s PPG.
In the third, Hawryluk closed the gap to 3-2 but Logan Newman and Josh Rutherford scored goals 39 second apart and the Comets coasted home.
Hawryluk added his final goal with 4:42 left.
The home team has won both games this season.
The game featured four fights, including two in the final 10 minutes of the game prompting suspensions. Grimshaw’s Matt Flette and Hunter Miller sit Saturday’s game vs Falher while Manning’s Jordan Ducharme and Jason Lambert sit vs High Prairie, also Saturday night.
