The Dawson Creek Canucks remained perfect this early season with a hard-fought 3-1 win at Manning over the Comets Nov. 10.
The Canucks [2-0] outshot the Comets 54-25 and needed an empty net goal with 52 seconds left from Brett Norman to seal the win.
Braden Gamble, needles to say, was outstanding in net for the Comets in the loss stopping 51 of 53 shots.
The Comets took a 1-0 lead in the first period on Taylor Paulovich’s goal, but from then on Kenton White was perfect in net for the Canucks, stopping 24 of 25 shots.
Sean Maktaak’s first goal of the season, scored shorthanded with Jeff Taylor in the penalty box, tied the game in the last minute of the first period.
Jason Higson’s second period goal proved to be the game-winner.
The Canucks have now won seven of nine games played at Manning in their history, but this was the first win decided by less than three goals.
