Canucks Nip A’s in Battle of West’s Best

Chris Clegg Writer

Six different players scored as the visiting Dawson Creek Canucks increased their West Division lead over the Grande Prairie Athletics to three points after a 6-3 win in the Swan City Dec. 6.

The Canucks, who won for the seventh time in eight starts, used three second period goals to break a 1-1 tie and four power play goals to defeat the A’s.
Braden Crone opened the scoring for the A’s in the first period, but Kevin Swales’ power play goal tied the contest.
In the second, Ben Moffat scored on the PP, Kyler Krantz at even strength, and Sean Mattaak on another PP and the Canucks led 4-1. All goals came in the last 8:37 of the period.
Kelvin Neustaeter’s goal with 22 seconds left pulled the A’s to within 4-2.
Spencer Gover’s PPG in the third period gave the Canucks a 5-1 lead. Blake Clement for GP and Matt Schmermund traded goals in the last 2:06 to complete the scoring.
Brett Norman added five assists for DC. DC’s goals from Swales, Moffatt and Krantz were the first of the season for each player.
GP ran into penalty trouble all night, taking 68 minutes in penalties to DC’s 10. As a result, DC was 4-for-11 on the PP while GP was scoreless in five chances.
DC has now won two of three games against the A’s this season.
DC has also won three of the last four games in GP between the clubs, and five of the last seven since 2014.
